"Where Light Falls" - Historic England

LIVE STREAM
CLIENT BRIEF

Historic England approached us to live stream two special events.

Where Light Falls told the story of those who risked their lives to protect the places they loved during the Second World War, at two cathedrals with opposing fates.

Stunning installations transformed the façades and precincts of St Paul’s Cathedral and Coventry Cathedral after dark, combining new poetry with powerful visuals and archive photography. Visitors were immersed in atmospheric light and sound, unique to each location.

INFRASTRUCTURE

We worked with their in-house digital team to plan the broadcasts and ensure we could technically deliver them in the challenging environments.

Both locations posed technical challenges mainly with broadband provision but utilising our bonded technology we managed to deliver a reliable stream even when the host could not provide a connection.

At Coventry we added a second camera to allow us to cover all the other projections and provide the viewer with a more in-depth experience.

OUTCOME

Historic England enjoyed a huge response to both broadcasts.

Approx 35,000 people watched the St.Pauls Cathedral broadcast and over 50,000 tuned in to watch Coventry.

We were looking for professionals to help us set up a live stream of our live shows in London and Coventry. solo16 were instrumental in building this success and they have been very creative to find technical solutions to all the challenges we faced. We were able to reach tens of thousands of people online with our live streams and this has helped to give much more coverage and legacy to our beautiful project. We are delighted with the results and are now looking for more opportunities to live stream to our audiences. Thank you!”

CLIENT BRIEF

After two previous live streamed events Help for Heroes, the armed forces charity, contacted us again to help stage and broadcast their 2019 Internal Virtual Conference.

The conference was designed to be a mixture of pre recorded content, produced by their excellent in-house Videographer Joe Gower, and live content from a mock studio that we would set up.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Help For Heroes have a very experienced team but most hadn't worked in a multi-camera environment or live streamed on this scale before.

We worked with their in-house Videographer, Event Planner and Comms team to plan the broadcast and ensure it was deliverable technically and would deliver their important messages.

The venue chosen was Tedworth House in Tidworth which is visually stunning but due to their limited broadband connectivity, and the terrible 4G coverage in the area, we provided our own dedicated internet connection by way of an external satellite dish.

The three camera broadcast incorporated videos, slides and titles and was broadcast with a team of just two via a bonded LiveU encoder.

Due to the nature of the internal content we can only share a short extract above.

In addition to the broadcasting we also provided stream hosting and created a bespoke page for the event. See examples of these here.

OUTCOME

Help for Heroes had never professionally streamed on this scale before but very quickly adapted to the ways we worked. They loved the live experience and really embraced it. The broadcast was viewed by hundreds of their staff all over the country and this not only saved them money bringing everyone together it was also much more eco friendly.

We look forward to supporting them on future events.

“At Help for Heroes we don’t have the resources to live stream our staff conference internally and solo16 were fundamental in dealing with the technical challenges of a live broadcast.
