We have been supplying the BBC with camera crews for over a decade now to cover a wide range of news and current affairs. Now and again, a job comes in that really gets us excited, and this was one of them!
In September Tom Sykes was hired by BBC Points West to film the main presentation pieces (links) for this two-part feature news story, which aired over the 2025 Christmas break.
It was not a simple assignment, as it would require flying our drone inside the custom-built Concorde hangar at Aerospace Bristol.
I have created this short film which provides a breakdown of the most complicated shot.
The hangar houses Concorde 'Alpha Foxtrot,' the last of the iconic supersonic passenger jets to be built and the last to fly.
Tom first walked the site with BBC producer Jules Hyam and presenter Cheryl Dennis to work out the best locations to capture the 'links' or pieces to camera which would segue between the films in the piece.
Three cameras were used to capture the links including a drone and gimbal.
The BBC were informed that no drone has ever flown over or around Concorde which made it an honour for Tom to do so. The site was not closed the public so real care had to be taken for each flight.
You can watch the fascinating two part story below or read more on the BBC's website here.
