Facebook Cover Videos - What You Need To Know

Facebook has recently started rolling out a video option for your previously static cover images.

Initially it was rolled out in April for a few large brands but we are pleased to see it is now being rolled out across the board for a few more brands. See an example here.

Facebook’s Official Statement:

'We recently started testing the ability on desktop to upload a video as the Page cover. Once a cover video has been created, video will render when people visit the Page.

By making cover video available, we want to help you create more engaging interaction and drive more rich experience for your audience by letting you spotlight your creative content in one of the most prominent space: your Page cover.

The feature is still in early testing, but we expect to roll it out more widely soon. We appreciate your patience and support while we improve on this feature to bring cover video available to you soon.'

If you don’t see it for your page yet, have no fear, it will come your way soon. We found it just appeared as an option on our page and whilst it let us upload the video it has not displayed it yet.

The recommended size for the videos is 820 x 462 pixels with 820 x 312 being the min area of viewing accepted. The video will loop. Duration should be 20-90s. We would suggest a loop of no longer than 20 seconds. Cover videos have the sound muted by default, so if a user wishes to hear the video they must manually turn the sound on so bear that in mind.
