FINALLY! - LinkedIn is one of the last social media networks to allow live streaming to its platform.
The social network for the business community has close to 600 million users globally and has finally acknowledged the need to allow its customers the option to live stream their talks or events on the platform.
The company is launching the live video service this week (11th February 2019) after nearly two years since announcing the service will be available.
TechCrunch report that Pete Davies, Director of Product Management at LinkedIn, has said “Live has been the most requested feature. Video is the fastest growing format on our platform right now, and the one most likely to get people talking,”
The service will launch in beta first in the U.S and will be called LinkedIn Live. Initially it will be invite only. Sources say that in the coming weeks LinkedIn will also post a contact form for others who want to try the service so keep a look out.
It's currently unclear when or if LinkedIn will make it possible for everyone to create LinkedIn Live videos but watch this space for news.
It's expected that the platform will initially broadcast conferences, product announcements, Q&As and other events mainly led by industry influencers.
Linkedin has selected "several third-party developers of live broadcasting streaming services that creators will work with to create and post more polished live video on LinkedIn. These include Wirecast, Switcher Studio, Wowza Media Systems, Socialive and Brandlive, with more to come in the following weeks,”
We can expect Linkedin to find a way to monetise these videos either via on-screen adverts or similar.
We anticipate that they will open this to any web video encoder that can stream via RTMP.
We ensure that all our video live streaming is transmitted using bonded technology which provides you with a level of redundancy should something happen to the host internet connection.
solo16 was one of the first UK live streaming companies to embrace Facebook Live broadcasting which is now the default platform for many business live streams. We welcome the addition of Linkedin Live to the market and will embrace their offering as soon as its available to our clients.
